Our Commitment to Child Safety

A Child-Safe Organisation

Our Child Safety Principles

Dynamic Support Services is an accredited provider of overnight respite care for children, operating under the Child Safe Scheme as approved by the Office of the Children’s Guardian. We are deeply committed to upholding a code of practice that prioritises the safety, well-being, and empowerment of children and young people with disabilities.

As a child-safe organisation, we strive to create a secure and nurturing environment where children feel safe, heard, and respected. Our commitment to child safety is at the core of everything we do.

At Dynamic Support Services, we are dedicated to ensuring that:

  • Children are safe, happy, and empowered.
  • We support and respect all children, as well as our staff and volunteers.
  • The safety, participation, and empowerment of all children are prioritised.
  • We have zero tolerance for child abuse, and all allegations or safety concerns are treated seriously and in line with our robust policies and procedures.
  • We fulfil our legal and moral obligations to report any concerns about a child’s safety to the appropriate authorities.

Preventing and Addressing Child Abuse

Dynamic Support Services is committed to:

  • Preventing child abuse by identifying risks early and taking proactive measures to reduce or eliminate them.
  • Regularly training and educating our managers, staff, and volunteers on child abuse risks and prevention strategies.
  • Promoting the cultural safety of Aboriginal children, children from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, and children with disabilities.
  • Creating both physical and online environments that promote safety and minimise the risk of harm to children and young people.

National Principles for Child-Safe Organisations

We adhere to the National Principles for Child Safe Organisations, which include:

  • Embedding child safety and well-being into organisational leadership, governance, and culture.
  • Informing children and young people about their rights and ensuring they participate in decisions affecting them.
  • Involving families and communities in promoting child safety and well-being.
  • Upholding equity and respecting diverse needs in our policies and practices.
  • Ensuring all staff and volunteers working with children are suitable and supported to reflect child safety values in their work.
  • Implementing child-focused processes to respond to complaints and concerns.
  • Equipping staff and volunteers with the knowledge, skills, and awareness to keep children safe through ongoing education and training.
  • Promoting safety and well-being in both physical and online environments.
  • Regularly reviewing and improving the implementation of child-safe principles.
  • Documenting policies and procedures that ensure the organisation is safe for children and young people.

Breach of Child Safety Policy

Dynamic Support Services takes breaches of our child safety policy very seriously.

  • Failure to Disclose: It is a serious criminal offence in Australia for an adult to fail to report a sexual offence against a child to the police.
  • Failure to Protect: Key management will be held accountable if they are aware of a potential risk of child sexual assault and fail to act due to negligence or incompetence. Serious breaches may result in disciplinary action or criminal charges under relevant legislation.

Mandatory Reporting

We have strict practices in place to handle allegations of abuse thoroughly and promptly. Our staff and volunteers are trained to respond appropriately to any concerns or incidents.

We ensure that all children, families, staff, and volunteers are aware of what to do and who to contact if they:

  • Witness abuse or are a victim of abuse.
  • Notice inappropriate behaviour.
  • Have a reasonable belief that an incident has occurred.

Factors contributing to reasonable belief include:

  • A child discloses that they or someone they know has been abused.
  • Observing behaviour consistent with that of an abuse victim.
  • Someone else raises a suspicion of abuse but is unwilling to report it.
  • Observing suspicious behaviour.
