WHAT IS SIL?

What Is Supported Independent Living (SIL)?

Supported Independent Living (SIL) is NDIS funding for support workers to help you at home, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. It’s for people who need help at home all the time but still want to run their own life. You can share support with housemates or have a worker to yourself.

SIL support includes:

SIL funding pays for the SUPPORT — not the rent. The accommodation may be funded separately through SDA or your own resources.

How SIL Works in 3 Steps

How Supported Independent Living Works
at Dynamic Support Services

STEP 01

  • We Get to Know You It starts with a conversation, not a form. A team member sits down with you and the people who support you. We want to understand your goals, your routine and what a good day looks like.

STEP 02

  • We Match You to a Home and Team Then we match you to a house and a support team. We weigh up location, accessibility and who you would be living with. You meet your support team before you move in.

STEP 03

  • You Move In and Build Independence Once you're settled, your team helps you build the skills you want, at your pace. We review how it's going and adjust your support as your needs change.

NDIS Funding for SIL

What NDIS Funding Covers for Supported Independent Living

The NDIA works out your SIL funding from the support you need on an ordinary day, plus the extra hours you need when the day goes sideways.
Four things shape the number:

  • Regular supports. The hours you need on a regular day, planned with your provider and delivered the same way each week.
  • Irregular supports. Cover for the unexpected. The NDIA funds 10 irregular support days a year for participants with standard support needs, and 15 for those with high intensity support needs.
  • Standard support. The pricing level most participants are funded at.
  • High intensity support. For participants who need workers with extra qualifications and experience, including complex behaviour support.

The NDIS pricing arrangements set the maximum rates a provider can charge. We work within them and put your service agreement in writing before any support starts.

SIL vs SDA vs Respite

What Is the Difference?

People mix these up constantly. SDA is the building. SIL is the people who support you inside it. Respite is a short stay away from home, and plenty of participants hold both SDA and SIL funding at once.

Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions About NDIS Support in Sydney

What is the difference between SIL and SDA housing?

SIL funds the support workers who help you at home. SDA funds the house itself, built for people with extreme functional impairment or very high support needs. Plenty of participants hold both. Dynamic Support Services runs SIL and SDA homes across Western Sydney.

You don’t pay for SIL out of pocket. It comes out of your NDIS plan at the rates in the NDIS pricing arrangements, which are updated each year. What you’re funded depends on the hours you need and whether you’re funded at standard or high intensity support.

Yes. We match housemates on age, gender and lifestyle, and we visit you first to understand what environment suits you best. You meet your support team before you move in.

SIL goes into your plan after the NDIA looks at your home and living needs. Your support coordinator or my NDIS contact can start that conversation. If SIL is already funded, you can choose your provider at any time.

Yes. SIL can be delivered in a shared house or on your own. The NDIA bases your funding on the support you need, not on how many people live with you.

Call us and we’ll walk you through it. We update your service agreement, coordinate with your current provider and set a start date that suits you. There is no cost to switch. Since 1 July 2026, every provider delivering SIL must be registered with the NDIS Commission, and Dynamic Support Services is a registered NDIS provider.
